Networked Economic Units
You may have wondered why we use the spelling "Neu" in NeuClear. NEU is short for Networked Economic Unit. This is roughly equivalent to an account, but in reality it is a bit more than that. It is like Business Units for individuals and small business.
What are Business Units
| Printers and Imaging Business Unit | Server and Large Systems Business Unit |

If you are familiar with large corporations, they often are composed of Business Units. These could be legal subsidiaries of the corporation, but generally speaking they are just internal groups and divisions. These Business Units normally have their own sets of accounting, purpose and business goals. However, legally they are all part of the whole.
Corporations do this for a number of reasons:
- To see which business unit is more profitable
- To allow each business unit to focus on its core business
- To make it simpler to spin off or sell non core business units
Business Units for you and me
In NeuClear we designed Networked Economic Units as light weight business units for you and me. Small businesses and individuals might want to use them for various kinds of projects.
| Day Job | Rental apartments |
| PC Consulting | Digital camera hobby web site. |
| Carlos's Networked Economic Units | |
|---|---|
Let's imagine our friend Carlos above. Carlos is a programmer at a large company in Mexico. He receives his montly salary for that. Carlos owns a couple of apartments that he rents out. He plans to buy a new apartment every 2 years and eventually live of the rental income. As Carlos is considered to be very good at managing PC's by some of the businesses in his local area, Carlos offers some part time consulting that pays relatively well but on a sporadic basis. Finally Carlos' passion is digital photography. He has created a hobby web site sharing tips and reviews of new cameras. While this is really just a hobby, he has recently started to earn a few hundred dollars monthly selling advertising.
Carlos clearly has 4 distinct economic activities. Most people just keep it all mixed up. However Carlos could benefit by creating 4 distinct Economic Units. Even if some of the activities are just small and hobby like at the moment.
The reasons for this are basically the same as for the corporation above. Right now his main income is his day job. However, one day he might want to focus more attention on one of the other activities. With NeuClear he simply creates another account with his NeuClear Personal Trader and he is done. He can create as many as he wants it wont cost him anything.
One day after 3 years online, Carlos decides that the photography site is taking up too much of his time. He wants to focus more on consulting in his spare time so he can invest in more apartments. He decides that rather than close it down, he wants to sell it as a going concern. As NeuClear will automatically maintain books for each account, he can share all of this information with potential buyers and when the sale is made he transfer the control over all it's NeuClear assets to the buyer. The same way as if it were a corporation, just 100% electronically and a lot cheaper.
